Basic Purpose
The Nurse Director of Assisted Living is responsible for leading and managing all clinical and operational aspects of the assisted living program. Operational responsibilities include staffing, coordination of resident and family needs, compliance with LDH standards, budget, and quality improvement, emergency response system and security monitors. The Nurse Director will also oversee the development and implementation of the medication administration program and supervise the Activities Coordinator to ensure a robust and enriching activities program that meets the diverse needs of residents.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
1. Recruit, hire, orient, and supervise AL staff: LPNs, and RCAs.
2. Collaborate with Director of Health Services to plan for transition of IL, AL and NC residents along the continuum of care.
3. Review/revise employee job descriptions annually.
4. Establish orientation schedule for new employees.
5. Resolve scheduling issues with LPN.
6. Ensure that time & attendance report is correct.
7. Conduct regular staff meetings and provide ongoing education opportunities for staff.
8. Establish annual budget; track monthly expenses.
9. Assure compliance with LDH standards, as well as OSHA, and CDC guidelines.
10. Develop and sustain dementia training curriculum for Assisted Living and Nursing Care; coordinate the committee assigned to this task.
11. Make certain all equipment in assisted living department is working correctly – beepers, fax machine, resident pagers, resident alarms, copy machine, Philips CarePoint computer system. Handle replacement and/or repair of all equipment needed.
12. Supervise staff to assure Resident Rights are protected.
13. Provide timely response to resident/family concerns. Seek guidance if unable to resolve concerns.
14. CarePoint emergency call system – input information on AL residents; program pendants; monitor operation of system.
15. Delegate completion of AL admission/discharge documentation.
16. Monitor compliance in record documentation by all staff.
17. Facilitate introduction of new residents to community, including Lifestyle, Wellness Center, spiritual groups, dining room etc.
18. Participate in scheduled marketing events.
19. Provide assistance in scheduling appointments and transportation for residents as needed.
20. Ensure all AL required paperwork is filed in the chart; set up new resident chart; close out discharge charts.
21. Keep all resident and employee information confidential.
22. Complete destruction of resident records according to policy and government regulations.
Clinical Leadership:
- Oversee all clinical care and ensure that care delivery complies with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures to maintain the highest standards of resident care.
- Lead, train, and supervise nursing and caregiving staff, fostering a culture of excellence and teamwork.
- Conduct resident assessments and develop individualized care plans in collaboration with families and interdisciplinary teams. Participate in resident care plans.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for residents and families regarding clinical concerns or changes in care needs.
Medication Administration Program:
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive medication administration program, including policies, protocols, and staff training.
- Ensure medication administration meets all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and audit medication records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Work closely with pharmacy partners and physicians to coordinate medication management for residents.
Activities Program Oversight:
- Supervise and provide guidance to the Activities Coordinator to ensure a well-rounded and engaging calendar of activities for residents.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make improvements based on resident feedback and evolving needs.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Minimum of 2 years of experience in LTC/related field
2. Excellent communication skills, in both verbal & written
3. Ability to work independently, with demonstrated initiative
4. Overall knowledge of computer skills
5. Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Louisiana preferred.
6. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
7. Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role in an assisted living or long-term care setting preferred.
Typical Physical Demands
- Must be able to lift/push/pull at least thirty-five (35) pounds.
- Must be able to bend, turn, sit and stand as needed to care for residents.
